Baba Ram Dev, the renowned yoga guru, has made a call to the children and priests to step forward and save the holy river, Ganges. School children of Varanasi on Thursday shook their hands with children of the families of priests and wet to the banks of sacred river.
Groups of volunteers from all the corners of India have decided to take out the rallies and submit the primary demands of ‘Ganga Raksha Manch.’ Swami Abhimukteshwaranand today declared that the crowd of Varanasi has taken out this march under the leadership of Baba Ram Dev.
Religious practices and traditions of bathing in Ganga on festivals had made this river come in the grip of severe water pollution, which has given rise to a number of water-borne diseases. In addition, disposal of industrial and domestic sewage into the river has further worsened the situation. Ganga Action Plan that was launched in 1985 has proved to be a disaster as until now, only 39 percent of the target has been achieved.
